Natural Environment Project Manager announced
We are pleased to announce that Jonathan Hart OBE has been promoted to the role of Natural Environment : Project Manager for JAHAMA Highland Estates, based in Fort William Scotland.
Jonathan joined the company in 2019 in the role of Liaison Manager and has successfully and consistently developed our engagement with a range of external partners including key environmental agencies , Scottish regulatory bodies, community groups, the MoD and commercial event organisers. Notable achievements in his role to date have been the successful partnership work in delivering the Nevis Nature Network, facilitating a wide range of river catchment improvements, successful translocations of golden eagles via the South of Scotland Golden Eagle project, the translocation of rare montane flowers from the Grey Corries to Helvellyn in the English Lake District , the delivery of ranger services across the company landholdings, including both Ben and Glen Nevis, during the covid years and more recently in connection with a range of aspirational landscape scale native woodland regeneration projects.
In his new role Jonathan will now lead the company's strategic development and implementation of its wider Natural Environment and Climate Change strategy across all our Glenshero, Mamore and Killiechonate properties totalling approximately 114,000 acres of the West Highlands of Scotland, which includes some of the most environmentally designated land in the UK. This role will have a particular emphasis on a robust response to the impacts of climate change, a clear focus on water resilience and a strong emphasis on delivering landscape and catchment scale regeneration, working closely with a large variety of key private, public and charitable partner organisations to ensure long term resilience of the ecosystem services that flow from our landholdings, whilst balancing the challenges of competing land uses.
Reporting directly to Ruaridh Macdonald, Head of Estates and Development, the new role will focus specifically on how the company can contribute positively to both Scottish and UK Government targets on climate change mitigation and reversing the decline in biodiversity loss, which will be at the core of Jonathans new responsibilities.
Ruaridh Macdonald commented 'I am delighted that Jonathan has accepted this new role in what will be a critical part of our business going forward. We are well underway with our first significant environmental restoration project with many more in the pipeline. Jon's appointment demonstrates our commitment to being responsible custodians of the landholding we look after and I look forward to working with him to deliver our ambitious targets.’
