Round up of the Stag Season on JAHAMA Highland Estate…
Last week marked the final day of the stag season across JAHAMA estate. Over the last few months the team have worked tirelessly out stalking each day hosting sporting guests, working towards deer cull targets and filling the freezers for the venison shop.
A typical day out on the hill for the team can be a very early start followed by a late finish depending on where the stags are across each estate. They cover miles of terrain each day, sharing their knowledge with guests and continuing until they get a stag. Back to the larder, but the job doesn't end there. Even if the carcasses are being sent to the game dealer, there is preparation needed. When selecting deer for the shop, the preperation time takes even longer, with additional hours work from skinning to vacuum packing. The day is long and each step requires skill & patience.
With the hind season starting almost immediately after stags, it doesn't leave much time in between. For some of the team, this week will be spent catching up on estate tasks, preparing trophies, sorting out paperwork and prepping for hinds, for others they will be straight into hinds.
On top of all the hard work from the stalking team, there is significant amount of work that has been going into the farm. Jamie and Bruce have taken lead of the farm with the help from the team on bigger gathering days, sheep shearing and medication days. 15 lambs were chosen and taken to the abattoir in Dingwall to bring lamb back to the shops for selling.
Throughout the stag season we had a visit from a social media influencer and new sporting agent who were hosted by Jamie and Cameron on Killiechonate Estate. As a result they produced a wonderful promotional video that perfectly demonstrates a day out stalking. Snippets show uninterrupted views, steep terrain and rugged, vast mountain ranges, it does the perfect job of capturing the full stalking experience JAHAMA can offer sporting clients.
This year has been incredibly busy with stalking guests, farm work, maintenance and so much more and now the team are heading into hinds, with higher cull numbers required over Killiechonate and Mamore, the team will be even busier. A huge thank you and appreciation to the whole team for their hard work and dedication to their roles.
