An update from Killiechonate Estate.
The red stag rut is now well underway on Killiechonate, with a party of guests out 5 days of the week to take full advantage of this. So far this stag season the Killiechonate team have hosted 25 let stalking days, welcoming guests from France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria and the UK. They will continue to take guests out for stags until the 20th of October at which point focus will shift to the hind cull, undertaken predominantly in the absence of paying guests.
Sheep were gathered in from Coire Eoin and the Grey Corries for the final time this past weekend as part of the company’s wider regen scheme, which will see livestock grazing constrained to the north-eastern part of Killiechonate. The current tenant farmer has grazed sheep here for the past 25 years, whilst livestock have been present on this portion of the landholding for most of the last century and beyond. The removal of sheep from aspects of Killiechonate represents a considerable shift in how the land is managed when considered against a longstanding agricultural heritage.
