JAHAMA Spring Update
We thought it was time for an update from JAHAMA Highland Estates…
The month of April has brought with it some extreme wildfire warnings across Scotland with Scottish Fire & Rescue Service urging the public to avoid lighting fire outdoors. Our team were prepped and ready, luckily the three wildfires reported on our landholding were extinguished quickly resulting in very minimal damage. The team upped their presence in popular local sites and politely educated the public on the risks whilst erecting various wildfire risk signs throughout the estate.
Elsewhere on the estate the Mamore team have been carrying out essential maintenance and repair work to their argo shed ahead of the season. Cameron, our Head Stalker on the Estate, has also been putting the finishing touches to this year’s diver nesting platforms on Loch Eilde Beag. Black Throat Divers are popular in the area however they are susceptible to nests flooding due to the change in water levels. These platforms allow a safe nesting area for the divers. Our image shows one of the black throat diver nesting platforms ready to be turfed and installed on Loch Eilde Beag.
This week, there will be a drone count carried out by BH Wildlife Consultancy across the entirety of Killiechonate Estate and Mamore estate. This is the first drone count to be carried out on JAHAMA landholdings, and one of the largest drone counts ever carried out in the UK. This count is conducted to determine current deer population, which allows a more concise update to our deer management plan.
Both our Killiechonate and Glenshero teams are flat out with this years lambing season, please keep an eye out on our socials for further updates!
