In 2016 the GFG Alliance, an international grouping of businesses combining renewable energy generation, recycling, metal manufacturing, engineering, mining and banking, acquired the aluminium smelter in Lochaber and, with that, the surrounding estates of Glenshero, Killiechonate and Mamore – now collectively known as JAHAMA Highland Estates.
JAHAMA Highland Estates is a collection of over 114,000 acres located around Fort William, Kinlochleven and Laggan in the west Highlands of Scotland. The land is made up of some of the most stunning scenery in Europe and surrounds Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain. The estates provide the catchment area for the water supply to the hydropower stations at Fort William and Kinlochleven.
JAHAMA Highland Estates is responsible for managing the land surrounding the only remaining aluminium smelter in the UK – Liberty British Aluminium, and the hydropower plants which supply it.
JAHAMA is working to combine traditional rural activities with sustainable industrial activities, while also engaging closely with local communities. To help deliver this plan and build our team, we are looking to recruit an Estates Liaison Manager to be based in Fort William.
Overview of Role
This is a wide and varied role where you could be engaging with Government representatives at breakfast, meeting with the Estates stalking and housekeeping team at lunchtime, delivering a presentation to Company Directors by mid-afternoon as well as dealing with property maintenance issues.
Deputising for the director of JAHAMA Highland Estates when required, you will attend local groups or committees ranging from Community Councils to Deer Management Groups, fisheries, government agencies, and other relevant parties. You will proactively engage with local communities, residents, tenants, and working groups.

Duties and Responsibilities
Be the public face of the Estate and ensure all enquiries are passed to the relevant party to be resolved.
Be the main point of contact for guests visiting the estate, including those on holiday or taking part in sporting activities.
Be the main point of contact for companies/ organisations/ groups looking to hold events on the estate, including filming requests or other non-business as usual activities.
Engage extensively with the estate team on a regular basis and help raise their profile internally within the company and with the wider community.
Working closely with the GFG PR team, to raise awareness of the estates and the vital role it plays within the local communities, including tenants, and internal staff.
Ensure correct procedures and approvals are sought and events communicated accordingly, both internally and externally as required.
Proactively contribute to development of the commercial aspect of the use of the estate.
Host estate visits for interested parties such as wildlife groups, architects, location scouts.
Develop marketing/ PR communications strategy for the estate, including creation of social media platforms, working with GFG marketing and PR teams.
Responsible for reviewing/ updating content on the JAHAMA website, including regular updates to the news/ blog pages.
Oversee the booking and management system for holiday lettings and sporting bookings, to enable bookings, client communication, payment and feedback.
Ensure holiday letting listing details are maintained and up to date, such as availability and photography.
Implementation of branding guidelines and the application within operations. This includes staff dress, estate signage, website, property decoration, vehicle branding and sponsorship opportunities.
Skills and Qualifications
Proven track record and experience of dealing with stakeholders at different levels, both internally and externally.
Marketing, communications, website development, events and PR experience.
Technical knowledge and experience of creating and managing social media accounts, and online presence such as company blogs and bulletins.
